Residents whose homes were destroyed or damaged by the fire are eligible to sign up for a free sifting service offered by two vetted organizations, Southern Baptist and the Samaritan’s Purse.

How does the sifting service work?

These two non-profit organizations provide emergency aid to victims of wildfires, assisting residents in sifting through the ashes of their homes for any personal belongings.

To sign up for the service, residents should visit the Disaster Assistance Center (open 7 days a week, 9 am-7 pm at 1755 S. Public Road, Lafayette).

Once a resident signs up, the organization will contact them to begin the work.

These organizations have received placards/access cards to enter the burned area for those addresses for which they have resident approval.

Boulder County Public Health guidance on sifting

Sifting through ash carries health risks so it is suggested that residents sign up with the organizations above, who have experience in sifting through ash. Boulder County Public Health has issued public health guidance relating to sifting: Toxic, cancer-causing substances make recovering belongings dangerous

Is sifting different than debris removal?

Sifting is separate from the Boulder County, City of Louisville and Town of Superior’s three stage debris removal plan. Residents who participate in the free sifting service on their property will still be eligible for debris removal.

If you’ve been to the Disaster Assistance Center and registered your information with the City of Louisville, called the City of Louisville Call Center or registered with Boulder County Housing and Human Services, you will receive information on debris removal as it becomes available. You do not need to re-visit the Disaster Assistance Center for this purpose. You can find out more about the Disaster Assistance Center and other resources on the City’s website LouisvilleCO.gov/MarshallFire .

City of Louisville hours at the Disaster Assistance Center

Starting today (Sunday), the City of Louisville table at the Disaster Assistance Center will be staffed from 9 am to 6 pm. Due to staffing constraints, the City table will close one hour before the Disaster Assistance Center closes at 7 pm.

The City of Louisville table at the Disaster Assistance Center is in-taking resident information to associate with property addresses and verifying destroyed/damaged/no water service. City staff are also available to talk through questions on debris removal and rebuilding.

Residents are welcome and encouraged to call the City’s dedicated call center (720) 824-3100 or email MarshallFire@LouisvilleCO.gov with any questions. City staff will be available to answer questions Monday-Friday 9 AM to 5 PM at that number. If you get the voice mail, please leave your name, your phone number, and your question and a staff member will call you back.

Please visit the City’s website LouisvilleCO.gov/MarshallFire to find out more about the Disaster Assistance Center, for resources and information, and to sign up for the City’s emails.
